Perception is the Photography club of School of Planning and architecture, Bhopal.
The group officially started functioning from September 21, 2012. It has been founded
by Vamika Jain and Nipun Prabhakar, students of architecture at S.P.A, Bhopal. On
the occasion of the group launch, the group organised its first event, a photo exhibition
"PERCEPTION" for four days, in the month of September. It received entries from
the students of S.P.A., Bhopal and was put up at Swaraj Bhawan, Bhopal. The exhibition
celebrated photos on a variety of themes ranging from architecture, wildlife, portraits
to techniques like star trails. Inauguration was done by Prof. Ajay Khare, Director
S.P.A., Bhopal and the art work and effort received an overwhelming attendance and
appreciation and praise from the locales, professional photographers and media personnel.
"It is a general assumption that the architectural experience is bound to the architectural
work and to the direct encounter with it. The experience is bound to the subject’s
immediate association with the work – its “here and now”. For that exact same reason
the experience can neither be copied nor reproduced. Yet, despite this assumption
we often base our whole understanding and knowledge of architectural works solely
on the reading of representations. During the 20th century Photography – more than
any other technique of representation – has become a decisive factor for our relationship
with and understanding of architecture. Architects have always used representations
and photography has become a favourite mode of presentation." The group organises
an annual photo exhibition "PERCEPTION", basic and advanced workshops, photo walks
in and around Bhopal.
